Data4 expands its campus in Jawczyce
Data4 is launching another data center in Jawczyce. The campus’s capacity increases by 10 MW. This is a significant step in the expansion of the company’s digital infrastructure. It plans to invest a total of €600 million in Poland by 2030.
- Data4 is launching a second campus building in Jawczyce and plans to increase its investments in Poland to €600 million by 2030.
- The growing demand for computing power, particularly in the AI field, is strengthening Poland’s position as a leading data center in the region.
- Data4’s investment supports the local community, including modernizing road infrastructure and supporting emergency services in the Ożarów Mazowiecki commune.
Data4’s Investment Expansion in Poland
Data4 consistently expands its presence in Poland. In 2023, the company completed the first campus building in Jawczyce, and the launch of the second facility is the next stage of this investment. To date, Data4 has invested €200 million in Poland. By 2030, the company plans to almost triple the investment value, to approximately €600 million. Expanding the campus will involve further collaboration with Polish suppliers and local partners and the creation of new jobs – ultimately, the investment will generate approximately 400 direct and indirect jobs.
Digital Infrastructure and Its Importance for the Region
Demand for computing power is growing with the development of cloud computing and artificial intelligence. According to internal analyses, data center capacity in Poland could increase from approximately 300 MW currently to nearly 500 MW by 2030, of which more than half – approximately 300 MW – will be dedicated to AI-based solutions. In this context, the pace of investment implementation and infrastructure availability are crucial for the competitiveness of economies.
“Poland is already a leader in Central and Eastern Europe, accounting for over one-third of the region’s data center capacity. We want to continue actively strengthening the competitiveness and technological sovereignty of Poland and Europe.” In a world where data and computing power are becoming critical resources, digital infrastructure supports both the economy and national security. Investments like the one in Jawczyce create space for Polish companies to leverage modern solutions and catch up on digital challenges,” emphasizes Andrzej Domański, Minister of Finance and Economy.
The Data4 campus in Jawczyce is being built on a 4-hectare site. Ultimately, the campus will have a total capacity of 60 MW and approximately 50,000 square meters of gross floor area, including nearly 15,000 square meters of net IT space. The newly opened building fits into this plan as the next stage in the development of digital infrastructure in Poland.
The importance of the investment for Data4 and the European market
“The expansion of the Jawczyce campus is a clear signal that Poland remains one of Data4’s key markets in Europe.” We are developing our infrastructure in a phased and predictable manner, combining high technical requirements with a responsible approach to the environment and cooperation with the local community in the Ożarów Mazowiecki commune. A stable technological base is essential for the continued development of the digital economy,” emphasizes Adam Ponichtera, Managing Director of Data4 in Poland.
“The launch of another building on our Polish campus is of strategic importance to us. With the dynamic development of artificial intelligence and cloud services, digital infrastructure is becoming one of the foundations of the competitiveness of the European economy. That’s why we are consistently expanding the Data4 campus network across Europe, responding to the growing demand for computing power,” says Olivier Micheli, CEO of Data4.
A Combination of Technological Efficiency and Sustainability
The new facility is the first project in the European Data4 network to be implemented according to the BREEAM standard – one of the world’s most recognized systems for assessing buildings’ environmental impact. The new data center received an “Excellent” certification and is also the first facility of its kind in Poland to be built according to this standard. BREEAM considers, among other things, energy efficiency, water management, material selection, emissions, and the impact of the project throughout its entire lifecycle.
The building features a container-based structure – approximately 60% of the facility was constructed from prefabricated components. This reduced wet work and traditional concrete pouring on site, resulting in lower emissions and a shorter project completion time. This solution is a reference project in the European Data4 network and sets the direction for the company’s further technological development.
All new Data4 projects are developed in accordance with the group’s global environmental goals. These include designing facilities with an energy efficiency rating (PUE) of less than 1.3, utilizing 100% low-carbon energy, and continuously monitoring energy and water consumption. Data4’s first data center in Jawczyce, opening in 2023, already demonstrates the company’s commitment to environmental sustainability. Over the past 12 months, the facility achieved a PUE of 1.27, below the industry-wide target of 1.30 set by the European Code of Conduct on Data Centers by 2030. This means the Data4 campus in Poland meets these requirements four years ahead of schedule. The facility also boasts very low water consumption: a Water Usage Effectiveness (WUE) of 0.037 l/kWh IT, below the industry average.
Climate Research and Infrastructure Resilience
Data4 is also participating in the Climate-Adapt4EOSC project, implemented by the European Commission. The Jawczyce campus will serve as a case study to investigate the impact of shrinking and swelling clay soils on infrastructure. As part of the project, in collaboration with over 18 research institutions, including the University of Cambridge, NCSR Demokritos, and BRGM, Data4 will test a tool for predicting geotechnical risks related to climate change at the Jawczyce campus. The results of this work will help better prepare data centers and other critical infrastructure elements, such as roads, bridges, and water networks, for the impacts of climate change and utilize this knowledge in the design of future investments.
Collaboration with the Municipality and Local Initiatives
Data4 is implementing the investment in dialogue with the local community and the local government of the Ożarów Mazowiecki commune. The investment is also intended to contribute to the development of the local economy by creating new jobs and collaborating with local partners.
“The development of the Data4 campus in Jawczyce is a significant investment for our commune. We are pleased that this project not only strengthens local infrastructure but also contributes to the economic development of the region. We appreciate the cooperation with the investor, which translates into concrete actions for the residents,” says Paweł Kanclerz, Mayor of Ożarów Mazowiecki.
